FS 70 R is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 223.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product Throttle for this trimmer is too touchy. It does not get a consistent flow. The guard on the head is also very bulky to work with. Overall it's is a good product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Ergonomics Machine runs well and I have not had the string breakage issue that some other reviewers have. The only con is that the grip and throttle trigger seem to be too close to the motor which forces my wrist into an uncomfortable position when using the machine. Since the grip is integrated into the plastic motor housing, there is no way to increase this distance. I turned the trimmer head about 40 degrees so that the trigger is slightly to the right instead of straight down and this helps a little with the comfort level. I've used several different trimmers of different brands as well as some other Stihl trimmers over the years and this is the only model on which I've had this problem. I would have gone with a different model had I tried this one before I bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands down, the best trimmer I've ever owned! This purchase was a replacement for a 25 year old Stihl trimmer that still runs but seems to be a bit underpowered for our needs. I use the old one for occasional quick trims around the house, but the FS 70 R has become my "go to" tool for heavy use on our 3 1/2 acres. If I were still in the business, I wouldn't hesitate to employ this trimmer on a daily basis. Thank you Stihl for another quality tool in my shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I just bought the fs70r and used it once , great power and it isn't as heavy as other professional trimmers Great product light weight plenty of power and seems reliable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I've been through a few gas trimmers in recent years, none able to withstand the weekly use at the house for long before having issues. First time I used this one I went through 2 tanks of fuel because it was cutting so well I didn't want to stop! And the point of sale service I got from my local dealer was excellent.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrated By Product The trimmer is light and very powerful! It can get through any weeds! The problem I have is the lines cut all the time. I then have to stop the trimmer, pull off the cap, pull the lines back back, put the cap back on and fire it back up. Trying to "bump it" doesn't work because when the lines cut they go inside and I have to take it apart. I am sure if I got an attachment with blades and not lines it would be awesome. It is so frustrating I don't even want to use it anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from American Made Quality Best weed trimmer I have ever owned, in the future I will be buying all my products at the Stihl dealer. Tired of overpriced garbage lowes and Home Depot have been selling me for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works very well This unit works well and starts very easy. The only complaint I have is that when you bump it to release more string you have to bump it two or three times to get more string, other wise it is a very good trimmer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I am a homeowner, a little heavy but it will cut through anything weeds that will grow arpund here. The self - feed Bump and Go Line Head is a pain in the Cabose. I have ordered a New Head on Amazon where I can install the line myself without disassembling the head every 5 minutes. Other than that the machine works great and should last a life time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Taming the jungle... Purchased FS70R after lots of internet research. I am not a professional but wanted the power of the FS70R along with Stihl's reliability. That is exactly what I got. I have used the machine twice, still breaking it in, but the power is there to clear my weedy, southwest Florida jungle. Now saving for a chainsaw which will be a Stihl Farm Boss.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of power for thick weeds and high grass. I replaced an FS 56 with the FS 70. It has noticeably more power and weighs the same. A deliberate bump of the head at 3/4 throttle advances the line perfectly every time. I've found the best engine performance is with the Motomix even compared to ethanol free pump gas with the Stihl HP oil. I'll run this machine for a couple hours straight only stopping to refuel. If you do long stretches of trimming, keep an extra spool handy to quickly replace the empty one. This is a great trimmer! It starts easy and runs great! It gets the tough jobs done with ease!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Great weed eater light weight runs good, plenty of power.I have 15 acres of pasture to weed eat and have had no issues at all with this thing. I use .105 line, I have never had issues with a stihl trimmer feeding line ever. If you use a string that is large enough for the job you are doing you won't have breakage issues. And common sense will take care of most of the issues I have read in a lot of these reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cuts small brush I decided to spend a bit more to reach entry level of the pro line for more power and the ability to use a couple of cutting blades. I'm glad I did. While the power was there for heavy line which cuts routine grass and ground covers it wasn't enough to cut some of my heavier brush. With the purchase of an additional guard I'm able to use the 9.1 inch grass cutting blade which cuts 5/8" brush with ease.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wish I could have tried it before I bought it. I couldn't wait to get me a Stihl weed eater. No matter what I do the string breaks off inside the head. I bump it out to full cutting length start trimming and even while bumping it out it breaks off in head. I have to take it apart to get it going again and the holders for the string do not hold it. I spent an hour trying to put the 33 ft of line on the head and with the string holder not working it impossible. I may have finally go 12 ft. on each side making it 24 ft. I I have to go thru this every time its not worth it. give me one like my old one it held 31 but it took about 5 minutes to do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of power Was tired of putting up with trimmers that lacked power, so I sprung for the low end pro model after using several Stihl pro saws. Was not let down. Plenty of power! Starts easy. Good handling. The only complaint is that when I overload the machine in thick brush, one of the two cords brake, and I have to shut it off to manually straighten out the string...but this is probably my fault, cutting brush, not grass! Even with this abuse, I'm still on my first spool of string. This unit is well above the needs of your average homeowner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall good but line advance has design issue The power, ease of starting, weight distribution are good. Half the time I use it the string cuts off even and I have to stop work, pull the head off, pull line out and reinstall head. Every trimmer I have had when the line won't advance that means it is empty. Not this one. There is a note in the manual that says to not let string get shorter than an inch before tapping on the ground. You just end up tapping more often so you don't have to pull the head. Annoying.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Line Feed I sold my cheap trimmer to purchase this Stihl FS 70 and was excited about my purchase as I own several Stihl products . From the first time I used it it would not feed and I have to continue to stop and take it apart and pull the line to advance . I called the Dealer and they said call the manufacture . I called Stihl USA and they instructed me to call the Dealer . I am very disappointed in the Trimmer I purchased and intend to sell it and go with another brand . DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT AS YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Uncomfortable ergonomics, weak power, expensive Compared to my old other brand trimmer, the Stihl FS 70 R has weak power, uncomfortable ergonomics when trimming at an angle, and is expensive. I'm disappointed because I wanted a Stihl due to their reputation but I wish I had shopped around other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trimmer for the home owner My wife and I just purchased a home with an acre of land. The property needed a lot of help! Weeds 3 feet high, a hill that wrapped 2 sides of the house. The hill was to steep to take the riding mower too so we purchased the FS70R by recommendation of the sales clerk and I'm glad he did! The FS70R is super powerful and it allows you to switch heads for thicker weeds. It made short work of the hills and other weed infested areas. I don't like yard work but if I'm going to have to do it I want a tool that won't struggle and make me do it longer. The FS70R is a breeze to use, super powerful, well balanced machine that almost makes it fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent machine for homeowners who weedeat a lot This trimmer has more than enough power, durability, and reliability for large jobs/yards. I've had it for two seasons now, and I haven't experienced any problems with it. It is very easy to start if you follow the instructions for starting and for storing in the winter. I have a small, rocky yard and a lot of brush, but I can cut everything up to tree saplings and work for three or four hours at a time without any issues. I've used other brands before, and this STIHL really outdoes them.
